Fixes #499. I tested
tail +1con OpenBSD and DragonFlyBSD and in both cases the bug was present and this commit fixes it. I have not tried it on Linux.I haven't tested much other than
tail +1cor tried to really understand the source of the problem with the previous seekable test.
